Apparently, the gag on U.S. Bishops' pro-life spokesman Cathy Cleaver Ruse regarding the Terri Schiavo case was removed last week, as she had an op-ed published in Newsday that is referenced on the U.S. Bishops' website.
In the piece Cleaver argues:
"Complex" seems to be the latest watchword in her case. But some things are simple and clear. Terri Schiavo is a woman living with severe disabilities. She is not comatose or "brain dead." She is not terminally ill or dying: Her heart beats on its own and her lungs work without assistance. The thing with Schiavo is that she cannot feed herself without assistance - but then again, neither could Christopher Reeve.
All in all its is refreshingly articulate and well done in my opinion.

Everyone obsessed with one American's hospice transition to the afterlife should have a good look at the horrible suffering caused by the War in Iraq - courtesy of "Culture of Life" George W. Bush. There are over 1500 dead soldiers, 30,000 injured on the U.S. side, 100,000 dead and who knows how many injured on the Iraqi side.

I would like to characterize the "obsession" as being related to watching the brutal, judicially-sanctioned starvation of a woman whose constitutional due process rights were most likely violated. You would surely not countenance due process violations for those in Guantanomo or the many on death row, non?
Also, your Iraqi death total is specious because it takes into account all of the persons that have died because of starvation, hunger, disease or other causes not directly attributable to U.S. military action. Due to the vast reconstruction occurring, it is more likely that a larger percentage of the population has a decent chance of living under the newly-elected government instead of under the boot of Saddam, who was starving and butchering his citizenry.
Criticism of the war is justified (although with the domino effect of world events in the past few months, you have a tough case to make that GWB was wrong), but at least be honest about the facts and figures. The death toll was originally reported by the British medical journal, The Lancet, has been roundly criticized.
Thank you for your post.

Cathy Cleaver Ruse: One of Bush's whorebags who in the end of every argument gives up her liberties to a controlling male republican party..why because she is probably paid to do so.
I cannot believe this woman can condone that Bush Admin. did the right thing by starving a living woman. WE DON'T EVEN DO THAT TO ANIMALS..we put them down..we dont' starve them to death. She also totes PRO FAMILY issues (Republicanism for PRO LIFE). So if she is pro life? Why is she an anti-quality-of-lifer? Obviously, if she was FOR the killing of Terry Schiavo..due to her inquality of life....Shouldn't she be "for" abortion to prevent a lower quality of life to children who live under those low income families? WHICH IS IT..BUSHWHORE???? I think every pro-lifer should put themselves on a NATIONAL HOMELAND LIST for giving up %30 of their income to support unwanted anti-aborted children. HMMM....crickets I hear.. THOUGHT SO!!!!!!!!! Stupidass Republican pro-lifers!!!!!!!!!
