Now, thru February 27th, 23 miles of New York's Central Park are lined with fabric "gates" in the latest public exhibit by artistic fabric wrappers Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The full explanation is available here. They claim "There is no particular special vantage point to experience and enjoy walking under The Gates." but for our broadband users out there NASA has a great overhead shot of central park.

Thank you so much for taking notice of the "Gates." While skeptical at first of such an effort and expense (I believe it costs around $20 million - paid for entirely by the artists) for a fabric display, I am not so opposed now and think it's kind of cool - It makes one experience Central Park in a way one never has - makes you see it a little differently. Nothing profound here just Heck, why not? We're visual beings and walking through a burst of vivid color at an otherwise quite dreary time of year sounds great. Although, as my husband just pointed out - from most angles it does kind of look like a construction site (I believe they were inspired to use saffron b/c it is the color associated with the monks of Tibet) because Americans tend to associate this color with construction zones). If you would like to see more images visit the Christo's website at
